Christine Brennan Opening

Tomorrow will be the opening for our next featured artist, Christine Brennan.

Brennan is an artist working out of Ojai, California and will come to Boise to attend the show.  Brennan approached the gallery because she was a fan of some of the artists the gallery represented, and sure enough she was a good fit for the gallery owners’ taste for quirky and eccentric work. Christine Brennan’s work is dreamlike and enigmatic.  Never setting out to illustrate a specific theme or story, the paintings are united by a feeling of enchantment and whimsy.

Working primarily in oil on paper or board, Christine Brennan’s artworks exude an ethereal sensation, portraying characters and scenes that are both surreal and sincere. The work stands as the artist’s independent visual statement and yet is meant to incite a relationship with each viewer that is unique to them.

Christine Brennan studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and earned a BFA in Illustration.  Working out of her studio in Ojai, Brennan exhibits across the country and has work in many collections, including the Carnegie Art Museum, and the City of Ventura Municipal Art Collection.

Christine Brennan’s opening event is on Saturday, June 8th, 6pm – 9pm. Brumfield’s Gallery openings are open to the public and feature a no-host bar provided by 13th Street Bar & Grill. The exhibition runs through Sunday, July 13th.  Brumfield’s Gallery is open seven days a week, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday, 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Corinna Button Exhibition Opening

Tomorrow night is the opening for newest exhibition from Corinna Button.

Originally from England, Button has recently moved to Chicago, allowing Brumfield's Gallery to host, for the first time, a solo show featuring her large-scale work.

The show will include the two series of works that Button is currently working on.  The first, titled "Idols" features large portraits of female figures in composed, indifferent, and isolated states of being.  The figures are meant to represent the fascination with, and inaccessibility to, our culture's revered pop icons.

The second series explores a theme that Button has long been inspired by.  Set in groups of three or more, Button depicts women in scenes of social interaction and various relationships.  Button has long been interested in the way these cliques portray the nature of secrets, thoughts, and intimacy between individuals in a group setting.

As always, Button works in an artistic style that has become all her own.  The artist employs several methods, using layers upon layers of medium and technique to achieve rich and textured artworks.  The results are unusual blends of printmaking, painting, collage, and other techniques that give Button's work its signature look.

Corinna Button's exhibition opening will be on Saturday, May 4 from 6 - 9 p.m. here at Brumfield's Gallery.  If you'd like to see her work, you can find it on the inventory on our website.

We hope to see you there!
